Active Learning

The Aspire Active Learning programme combines sport, physical activity and numeracy. It is a great way to engage pupils who have difficulty learning in a classroom environment, have become disaffected towards numeracy or are underachieving in the subject.

Lessons plans and resources have been developed on a thematic basis to raise childrens self-esteem in numeracy through engaging and exciting lessons.  All lessons focus on a sport or physical activity, with a strong emphasis on a unit of numeracy work planned from the Primary Framework for Mathematics, with key numeracy objectives covered in each unit. Differentiated and extension tasks enable the programme to target and extend pupils learning. The programme provides opportunities for pupils to:

  • Participate in physical activities that bring numeracy to life
  • Apply maths to practical situations
  • Improve their understanding of the core subject
  • Realise numeracy is an integral part of everyday life
  • Lead a healthy active lifestyle

With six schemes of work consisting of seven plans and resource packs, this bespoke programme can be tailored to your school needs. Whether it is for a single term or a full year, with one target group or a range of children, the Active Learning programme can support your curriculum. The sessions are delivered by suitably qualified coaches and instructors. They will have a sound knowledge base, an understanding of the children’s needs and have been trained to deliver the programme successfully. The Aspire Active Learning project puts the fun back into numeracy!

*The Aspire Active Learning Programme was devised in conjunction with New Oscott Primary School, Vanessa Coleman and Sutton Central Extended Schools Cluster.
