Be a real-life superhero this summer

Be a real-life superhero this summer

Being indoors in front of a screen became children’s day-to-day for almost two years.

And despite restrictions having been lifted, the effects are ongoing.

2.3 million children now do less than an average of 30 minutes of physical activity a day.

94,000 fewer children and young people are active compared to pre-pandemic levels.

The number of children with a probable mental health disorder has increased from one in nine in 2017 to one in six in 2021.

And the upcoming summer holiday risks worsening the health and wellbeing of children.

Increased financial pressures make the school holidays very difficult for many families. More than 1 in 5 (20.6%) households with children have faced food insecurity in the past six months, up from 11.6% pre-Covid. Extra food costs can leave families hungry, and a lack of affordable childcare can limit children’s chances to participate in activities valuable for their development.

Things need to change.

And that’s where the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme comes in.

Make this summer one to remember for thousands of children by being a coach at the Aspire Active Camps HAF programme.

What is HAF and who are we?

HAF is all about fun, food and physical activity for children. It’s a free holiday programme funded by the Government for children who receive free school meals.

The programme is backed by footballer Marcus Rashford MBE. Having received free school meals himself and experienced first hand the challenges that the school holidays can bring, he’s now campaigning to end child food poverty.

HAF is being delivered by us, Aspire Active Camps. We’re an Ofsted registered childcare provider who have been running our school holiday camps across the Midlands for 13 years.

Last Summer we welcomed over 5,000 children across our 12 camps. This year we want to reach even more, and that’s why we need you.

What are the job roles available?

Sport Coach and Physical Activity Coach (HAF)

As a sport and physical activity coach, you’ll be doing exactly that, running sport and physical activity sessions for children aged 5 - 14 at Active Camps.

Sessions are to be high-quality, lots of fun, safe, accessible and inclusive. They should be the kind that have a lasting impact and make lasting memories for children; be the real-life superhero that they remember for years to come.

Here’s where to find out more and apply:

HAF Coordinator - Sport Coach and Physical Activity Leader

As a Coordinator, it’s your job to lead the HAF programme. In addition to planning and delivering quality sport and physical activity sessions, you’ll manage a small team of coaches, ensuring a fully compliant, safe, and well-run camp.

Be the Captain Marvel of the group. The power to make summer 2022 memorable for children, parents, and team members is in your hands.

Challenge yourself, take pride in your camp and have an impact that lasts.

What are the benefits of working with us?

There’s a fair number of demands that come with being an employee in any role, and it can often feel like it’s all take, take, take. Yes, you get paid, but pay only goes so far in motivating you to get out of bed each morning.

Working somewhere you’re valued, supported and have the chance to develop makes all the difference to how you approach each day.

As does knowing the impact you’re having. Being a part of HAF, you have the ability to change a child’s life, to be someone they look up to, learn from, smile when they see, and always remember. That’s your superpower.

As well as getting to be a real-life superhero, you get:

  • Employed status – none of these zero-hour contracts
  • A full uniform
  • Training, including accredited qualifications
  • Career development with us, or in the sports and physical education field
  • Free childcare for children aged 5-14 at our Ofsted registered Active Camps

What qualities are we looking for?

As The Incredibles’ Edna Mode once said, “No capes!”

No capes are required to be a HAF superhero, just:

  • Energy
  • Enthusiasm
  • Confidence
  • Motivation
  • Commitment
  • Creativity
  • A passion for sport and physical activity
  • A drive to make a difference and inspire children

What sports and activities will you be running?

A whole host of sports and activities are set to run over the summer at HAF.

Think benchball, basketball, archery, tennis, ultimate frisbee, netball, dodgeball, football, cricket, volleyball, handball and hockey, just to name a few.

We’ve also got some fun curriculum-based activities on the cards, including our physically active learning programmes Maths on the Move and English on the Move, plus arts and crafts that encourage healthy eating and lifestyles.

Whilst all the activities are planned, we’re always keen to hear your ideas, after all new and innovative activities are a big part of what keeps children coming back to Active Camps!

We have 11 venues open throughout the summer:

  • Solihull
  • Leamington
