Doubled Primary PE and Sport Premium continues for 2018/19
News broke yesterday at the Youth Sports Trust Conference that the doubled Primary PE and Sports Premium of £320 million will remain in place for the 2018/19 academic year.
Nadhim Zahawi, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Children and Families, made the announcement. He said ‘We know that schools are using their premium to support and involve the least active children. 51% of schools surveyed as part of an independent evaluation said they were targeting those who do not always actively participate but we can do more.’
Nadhim Zahawi expressed his delight in the continuation of the £320 million funding. He encouraged schools ‘to build on the work you have already done using your premium and to ensure that it builds the capacity and capability for all pupils and that what you do now continues to impact upon pupils in the future’.
Aspire are delighted to hear that this funding will remain for the next academic year. Paul Griffiths, Director of Business Development at Aspire Sports, said 'Aspire work with schools to help ensure their Primary PE and Sport Premium is been utilised to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport. Our ground breaking mentoring programme is being used by more schools year-on-year throughout the country and the results are excellent. Yesterday’s announcement will help build capacity and capability in these schools to ensure teachers' confidence, knowledge and understanding continues to improve.”
