Winter walks

A good old-fashioned winter walk: What could be better?

We are big fans of a muddy stomp through the local park and a nice cuppa when you get home, but when it comes to the Christmas holidays, there might be times when you want to add some twinkly lights, festive food and Instagram-friendly photo opportunities. If so, here’s our pick of Christmassy outdoor day trips in the Midlands for Christmas 2021:

Christmas at Trentham in Stoke-on-Trent sees the grounds come alive with a spectacular burst of Christmas magic and sparkle in a brand new, visually stunning, multi-sensory mix of light, fire and sound.

Winter Glow’s Illuminated Light Trail  Winding around the historic Three Counties Showground, at the foot of the famous Malvern Hills, this sparkling trail promises a fabulous spectrum of winter colours and immersive installations.

Combine a wintery walk with choosing your Christmas tree from the heart of the forest at Cannock Chase (it’s a shop – don't worry, we’re not suggesting you chop one down yourself!)

The National Trust are holding a Percy the Park Keeper winter wander trail at various locations this winter. Join in the fun with Percy and his animal friends and give nature a helping hand.

Or if you’d rather avoid the mud and leaves, how about one of these city-based Christmassy walks?

Jewellery Quarter Christmas Window Trail Download a map and, once you’re out and about, consider donating to this year’s chosen charity – Change in Action – by scanning the QR codes on each of the windows.

Even if there’s no real snow this year, you can still enjoy Birmingham’s Walking with the Snowman trail  which takes you to 12 larger-than-life snowmen around the city centre.

And finally, if walking isn’t adrenaline-filled enough for you, you can get active with an ice-skating session at one of these locations:

Centenary Square, Birmingham

Digbeth
Warwick Castle

Tamworth SnowDome

Coventry
