Workshop Announced: 'Creating an Active School'
How’s your school doing with delivering the required 30 minutes of physical activity per day?
Martine Verweij, founding CEO of the UK charity Kids Run Free, joins the West Midlands PE and School Sport conference to share how the charity’s programme ‘Marathon Kids’ is helping schools achieve this vital target.
By providing free, fun and sustainable running opportunities for every child, from toddlers to teen, Martine is on a mission to get kids moving. Parks play host to children and their families in the community to take part in ‘Kids Run Free’, whilst ‘Marathon Kids’ is delivered in schools. Both programmes share a common goal; to inspire children to be regularly active through goal setting, tracking, role-modelling, rewarding and celebrating.
Running now for 8 years, the charity has grown exponentially, working with teams of volunteers in communities across the UK and over 50,000 children in both schools and park programmes. Early positive experiences with sport are created as a result, instrumental to a child’s active future.
Martine brings with her over 20 years’ experience in sports event management; Martine is founding Director of Raceways Events CIC and school governor to 3 primary schools in Warwickshire; Martine has competed internationally for Great Britain and the Netherlands as an age-group athlete in cyclo-cross and triathlon; Martine has cycled 2,700miles from Canada to Mexico in the world’s longest solo off-road race, completing it in 26 days straight.
If last year’s fully booked workshops are anything to go by, you’ll not want to miss out.
